Training/Experience

Licensure: I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland (License #3495)

Education:   I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the APA approved program at Colorado State University in 1993. My APA approved doctoral internship was at the Ohio State University from 1992-1993.

Professional Experience:  I have over 30 years of experience as a clinician and educator. Early in my career I was a college professor at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and worked at Family Services of Winona.

From 1998-2006 I was a staff psychologist at the inpatient treatment center St. Luke Institute in Silver Spring. There I specialized in working with those in ministry with mood, behavioral issues, and addictions.  Since 2006 I have had a general adult practice in the Silver Spring area where I offer individual therapy, consultation, and workshops.

I have taken additional training in the area of Mindfulness and Self Compassion.

Areas of Specialization :  I provide individual therapy to adults with a wide range of concerns including anxiety and depression,  grief and loss, and problematic behaviors.  I have extensive experience in working with compulsive behaviors, particularly in the area of compulsive use of internet pornography. I frequently work with clients who struggle with mood disorders, including depression and anxiety. I have also worked with a number of women and men who are healing from childhood trauma or abuse. Another area of specialization is working with men and women in ministry and religious life addressing some of the special challenges of this life.  I have specialized training in Mindfulness and Mindful Self- Compassion.
